The ceremony, conducted virtually from Adampur, marks a long-awaited milestone for Ludhiana, a city often recognized as a premier industrial and commercial hub. Addressing the people of the region, the Prime Minister noted that the operationalization of this facility would directly support the enterprising spirit of the local population by providing the modern connectivity essential for economic expansion. The new terminal, developed as a joint venture involving the state government and national aviation authorities, features upgraded infrastructure capable of handling large commercial aircraft, effectively replacing the older and more restricted facilities in the district.
While the physical structure is now complete, full flight operations are scheduled to commence in early March. Initial services are expected to link Ludhiana directly with Delhi, providing much-needed relief to local business owners and residents who previously relied on distant airports for air travel. The project has incorporated several sustainable design elements, including energy-efficient lighting and water conservation systems, reflecting a broader commitment to environmentally responsible infrastructure. Earlier in the day, the Prime Minister visited Jalandhar to participate in the 649th birth anniversary celebrations of the revered saint Guru Ravidas. During his visit to Dera Sachkhand Ballan, a site of immense spiritual importance, he formally announced the renaming of Adampur Airport as Shri Guru Ravidass Maharaj Ji Airport. This change serves as a tribute to the saint’s enduring message of equality and human dignity. The visit and the renaming ceremony were met with widespread appreciation from the community gathered to mark the auspicious occasion.
