New Delhi, January 19, 2026: United Arab Emirates President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan made a short but symbolically significant visit to India on Monday, underlining the growing strategic and personal warmth in India–UAE relations amid heightened tensions in West Asia.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi personally received the UAE President at the airport in New Delhi, a gesture that stood out for its informality and warmth. Visuals shared by the Prime Minister showed the two leaders embracing and travelling together, reflecting the close rapport that has developed between them over the past several years.

In a post on X, Modi said he went to the airport to welcome “my brother” Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, describing the visit as a reflection of the importance India attaches to its friendship with the UAE. He said he looked forward to discussions during the visit, even though it was limited to just three hours.

Officials said the brief stopover came at a sensitive moment in regional geopolitics, with ongoing instability in Gaza, strained Iran–US relations and the unresolved conflict in Yemen, in which the UAE and Saudi Arabia have been key stakeholders. Against this backdrop, the visit was seen as a reaffirmation of close coordination and mutual trust between New Delhi and Abu Dhabi.

The two leaders are understood to have discussed regional developments, energy cooperation and broader strategic ties. India and the UAE have steadily expanded cooperation across trade, investment, defence and people-to-people exchanges, with regular high-level engagement reinforcing the partnership.

Though short in duration, the visit carried strong diplomatic messaging, highlighting India’s importance to the UAE and the personal commitment of both leaders to maintaining close contact during times of regional uncertainty.
