New Delhi, January 12, 2026: Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will present the Union Budget 2026 in Parliament on Sunday, February 1, in a rare weekend session, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla announced on Monday. Traditionally, the Union Budget has been presented on a weekday, making its tabling on a Sunday a notable departure from long-established parliamentary convention.

This will be Sitharaman’s ninth Union Budget, placing her just one short of the record held by former finance minister Morarji Desai. The forthcoming Budget is expected to focus on sustaining economic growth, managing fiscal consolidation, and addressing pressures arising from global uncertainty, while balancing demands for infrastructure spending and welfare priorities.
