Hyderabad, February 22, 2026: In a major development for internal security, top-tier Maoist commander Thippiri Tirupati, widely known as Devji, has surrendered before the Telangana Police. Devji, a central committee strategist, was a key figure within the movement. His decision to abandon the armed struggle comes at a critical time for the organization, which has faced increasing pressure from coordinated security operations across the region.

Alongside Devji, veteran leader Malla Raji Reddy also surrendered. Reddy, associated with the group for several decades and holding significant responsibilities within the state hierarchy, laid down arms in what officials described as a decisive setback to the outlawed outfit’s leadership structure. The move follows a pattern of recent desertions by senior cadres citing ideological disillusionment and the desire for a stable life as reasons for their return to the mainstream.

These high-profile surrenders occurred just weeks before the Union Government’s March 2026 deadline to eliminate extremist groups nationwide. The timeline has intensified efforts by state and federal forces to encourage members to utilize rehabilitation policies. Security analysts suggest that the departure of seasoned strategists like Devji and Reddy could accelerate the disintegration of remaining operational units.

Director General of Police B Shivadhar Reddy stated that 588 Maoist leaders and cadres have surrendered over the last two years. These individuals have since transitioned into civilian lives, supported by the state’s reintegration initiatives. The police reiterated its commitment to assisting any remaining underground members who choose to lay down weapons and pursue peaceful futures within their communities.
