Davos, January 22, 2026 : United States President Donald Trump on Wednesday indicated that a positive trade agreement between India and the United States could be concluded soon, while expressing personal respect and admiration for Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Speaking on the sidelines of the annual meeting of the World Economic Forum in Davos, Trump described Modi as a close friend and a leader he holds in high regard. He said the two countries were working towards a mutually beneficial trade arrangement and expressed confidence that the outcome would be positive.

According to a media report, the brief remarks were made in response to a question on the status of the India–US trade agreement. Trump noted that discussions between the two sides were progressing and reiterated his belief that the partnership between the two democracies would continue to strengthen.

The US President is attending the World Economic Forum’s annual gathering in Davos, where global leaders, policymakers, and business executives have convened to discuss economic cooperation, trade, and geopolitical challenges.
