February 1, 2026 | Moscow : Russia’s deputy chairman of the National Security Council, Dmitry Medvedev, said on Sunday that a military victory in Ukraine is already becoming visible across several parameters, indicating that Moscow believes its objectives in the conflict could be achieved in the near future.

Speaking in interviews to several media outlets, including Russia’s state-run news agency TASS and military channel WarGonzo, Medvedev said developments on the ground suggest progress towards the goals of what Russia describes as its Special Military Operation. He added that while military success is important, planning for the period after active hostilities is equally critical.

As the war in Ukraine approaches four years later this month, Medvedev said the purpose of victory should be to prevent future conflicts and ensure longer-term stability. He noted that the end of fighting must be followed by a framework that reduces the risk of renewed confrontation.

Medvedev also referred to international efforts surrounding the conflict, saying US President Donald Trump appears keen to be remembered as a peacemaker amid ongoing global discussions on ways to end the war.

While no specific timeline for the end of hostilities was offered, the remarks reflect growing confidence within Russia’s leadership about the direction of the conflict, alongside an acknowledgment that managing the post-war phase will be a key challenge.
