February 2, 2026, Mumbai : A significant security breach occurred in the early hours of Sunday when multiple gunshots were fired toward the Juhu residence of filmmaker Rohit Shetty. The incident took place at approximately 12:45 am, with rounds striking the first floor of the building, including the glass panel of an internal gymnasium. While the director and his family members were reportedly inside the premises at the time of the attack, no injuries were sustained.
The investigation gained immediate momentum as Mumbai and Pune police departments coordinated a joint operation. Based on tracking a motorcycle with a Pune registration seen near the site, authorities conducted raids in the Warje and Karve Nagar areas. These efforts led to the detention of five individuals. Following initial questioning, four suspects—identified as Swapnil Sakat, Siddharth Yenpure, Aditya Gayaki, and Samarth Pomaji—were officially arrested and brought to Mumbai. A fifth individual was issued a notice for further investigation.
Evidence suggests the involvement of organized crime, specifically linked to the Lawrence Bishnoi network. Shortly after the firing, a social media post attributed to Shubham Lonkar claimed responsibility for the act, describing it as a warning to the film industry. The suspects, primarily young men from Pune with no significant prior criminal records, are believed to have provided the logistical support necessary for the shooting. A local court has since remanded the four accused to police custody until February 5 to allow for a deeper probe into the conspiracy and the recovery of the weapons used. In response to the event, security has been significantly tightened around the filmmaker’s residence and the surrounding neighborhood.
