New Delhi, January 25, 2026 : Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday urged citizens to actively participate in democratic processes, describing voters as the true shapers of India’s development journey, as the country marked National Voters’ Day.
In a message addressed to MY-Bharat volunteers, the prime minister said voting is not merely a constitutional right but a responsibility that gives every citizen a direct role in shaping the nation’s future. He noted that people across the country, from remote Himalayan regions to islands and dense forests, consistently turn out to vote, reflecting a deep-rooted commitment to democracy.
Modi highlighted the growing participation of women and young voters, saying their awareness and involvement have strengthened the foundations of India’s democratic system. He encouraged families and communities to celebrate first-time voters, calling the moment a milestone in an individual’s democratic journey.
Referring to the indelible ink mark on voters’ fingers, the prime minister described it as a symbol of honour that keeps democracy vibrant and purposeful. He also praised the efforts of the Election Commission of India for its role in reinforcing democratic processes.
National Voters’ Day is observed annually on January 25 to commemorate the foundation day of the Election Commission of India and to promote greater participation in the electoral process.
