The International Cricket Council has declined a request from the Bangladesh Cricket Board to relocate Bangladesh’s T20 World Cup fixtures from India to Sri Lanka, according to a report carried by ESPNCricinfo.

The decision was communicated during a virtual meeting held on Tuesday, where the ICC conveyed that security-related concerns cited by the BCB were not sufficient grounds to alter the tournament’s approved schedule. The governing body reportedly reiterated that participating teams are obligated to adhere to the official fixtures and venues already finalised for the event.

The report further noted that the ICC cautioned Bangladesh that failure to travel to India for their scheduled matches could lead to serious consequences, including the possibility of forfeiting points under tournament regulations.

Bangladesh are slated to begin their campaign on February 7, when they face two-time champions West Indies at Eden Gardens, one of India’s marquee cricket venues.
