Vadodara, January 22, 2026 : Gujarat Giants delivered a disciplined all-round performance to register a comprehensive 45 run victory over UP Warriorz in the 14th match of the Women’s Premier League 2026 at Vadodara on Wednesday.
After being put in to bat, Gujarat Giants posted a competitive 153 for 8 in their allotted 20 overs. The innings was anchored by Sophie Devine, who played a calm and composed knock of 50 not out off 42 deliveries, striking two fours and three sixes to hold the innings together. Beth Mooney provided a brisk start at the top with 38 off 34 balls, while useful contributions from Kashvee Gautam and Anushka Sharma helped the Giants maintain momentum through the middle overs.
UP Warriorz bowlers had mixed returns, with Sophie Ecclestone and Kranti Goud picking up two wickets each, though they struggled to contain the scoring at key moments.
In reply, UP Warriorz never quite settled during their chase and were bowled out for 108 in 17.3 overs. Chloe Tryon was the lone bright spot for the Warriorz, scoring an unbeaten 30 off 22 balls, but lacked support from the other end as wickets fell at regular intervals.
Gujarat Giants’ bowling attack was led by Rajeshwari Gayakwad, who produced a match-winning spell, claiming three wickets while conceding just 16 runs in her four overs. Renuka Singh Thakur and Sophie Devine also made vital breakthroughs, ensuring the target remained out of reach for UP Warriorz.
The consistent pressure applied by the Giants’ bowlers resulted in regular dismissals, preventing UP Warriorz from building any meaningful partnerships. The chase lost steam early and never recovered, despite brief resistance in the middle order.
Rajeshwari Gayakwad was named Player of the Match for her impactful bowling performance, which played a decisive role in Gujarat Giants’ dominant win.
With this victory, Gujarat Giants strengthened their position in the WPL 2026 standings, while UP Warriorz were left searching for answers after another difficult outing.
