Srinagar, February 8, 2026 — Chief of Army Staff General Upendra Dwivedi conducted a high-level review of counter-terror operations in Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday, focusing on operational preparedness and the expanded use of advanced technology in security strategy. The visit comes amid continued vigilance in sensitive districts and along infiltration-prone corridors of the Union Territory.

Senior field commanders presented updated assessments covering recent operations, intelligence coordination, border surveillance, and rapid response mechanisms. Discussions highlighted troop mobility in difficult terrain and the need for seamless coordination among security agencies.

A major focus of the review was the integration of high-tech tools into counter-terror efforts. Commanders examined the deployment of drones for reconnaissance, sensor-based monitoring systems, real-time data sharing, and AI-assisted analysis to track suspicious movement. The Army leadership emphasized that technology-backed surveillance and precision operations are increasingly critical in minimizing risk while maintaining effectiveness.

General Dwivedi underscored the importance of intelligence-led operations supported by modern equipment and secure communications. Special attention was given to enhancing night operations capability, electronic warfare preparedness, and logistics support in forward areas.

Troop welfare and morale were also reviewed, with interactions held with personnel deployed in active sectors. The leadership acknowledged the challenging conditions and reiterated commitments to improved equipment, infrastructure, and rotation planning to sustain operational efficiency.

Security officials noted that counter-terror operations in Jammu and Kashmir have increasingly shifted toward targeted, intelligence-driven missions rather than large-scale engagements. The current approach aims to maintain pressure on militant groups while strengthening civilian safety and stability.

The review concluded with directives to sharpen readiness, accelerate technology adoption, and reinforce joint coordination structures across the region.
