Jammu, January 16, 2026: Security agencies were placed on heightened alert after Pakistani drones were detected hovering near the India–Pakistan border in Jammu and Kashmir late Thursday night, officials said. The aerial activity was reported along sensitive stretches of the Line of Control in Poonch district and the Ramgarh sector of Samba, triggering an immediate response from Indian security forces.

According to official sources, multiple drones were observed moving close to the border fence, prompting the activation of anti-drone and counter-unmanned aerial systems deployed in the region. Troops stationed in forward areas closely tracked the movement to prevent any potential infiltration attempt or delivery of arms, ammunition, or narcotics, which have been linked to similar drone sightings in the past.

Security personnel maintained heightened vigilance throughout the night, while ground patrols were intensified in vulnerable areas. No loss of life or damage to property was reported, and there was no confirmation of any payload being dropped by the drones.

Officials said the situation remains under control, but surveillance has been further strengthened as a precautionary measure. The incident comes amid continuing concerns over cross-border drone activity along the Jammu and Kashmir frontier, which has seen a rise in such incidents in recent years.

Authorities have assured that all necessary steps are being taken to safeguard border security and maintain peace in the region.
