Nagaur, January 26, 2026 : Police in the Nagaur district of Rajasthan successfully intercepted a massive consignment of illegal explosives late Saturday night, preventing a potential disaster just hours before the Republic Day celebrations. During a targeted raid in Harsaur village, authorities recovered approximately 9,550 kilograms of ammonium nitrate and a significant collection of detonators and fuse wires from a local farm.
The operation, which was carried out based on specific intelligence, led to the arrest of Suleman Khan, a resident of the village. According to Superintendent of Police Shailendra Singh Kachhawa, the seized material was found packed into 187 individual sacks. In addition to the primary chemical compound, officials discovered nine cartons of detonators and dozens of bundles of both blue and red fuse wires.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the suspect was involved in supplying these materials for both legal and illegal mining operations in the region. However, the timing of the seizure has drawn heightened concern from security agencies, especially given that ammonium nitrate has been linked to previous high-profile explosions, including an incident near the Red Fort in November 2025.
The arrested individual reportedly has a prior criminal history with at least three cases already registered against him. While a case has been filed under the relevant sections of the Explosives Act, central intelligence agencies have been alerted to the development. These agencies are expected to conduct further questioning to determine if there are broader connections or specific threats intended for the national holiday.
